Training the Next Generation of Indigenous Data Scientists

Matt Anderson

Congratulations to Matthew Anderson who was mentioned in The New York Times!

The name of Matt's workshop was Indigidata. It was run in conjunction with the Native Biodata Consortium. The organizing committee and all speakers were Indigenous people working in various arenas with data. The goal of the workshop was to address a current lack of expertise, experiences, and exposure to data sciences among Indigenous undergraduates and early career trainees. To help achieve these goals, the workshop ran for four days virtually for 6 hours a day to give trainees both opportunities to be taught, discuss, and handle data directly.
