During the 2014 Summer Term, The Office of Distance Education and eLearning (ODEE) announced that its latest Book Launch recipient was the Department of Microbiology’s Dr. Mette Ibba. Dr. Ibba’s proposal was chosen from an application pool by a cross-functional team within ODEE. Book Launch is an opportunity for The Ohio State University faculty, staff, and students to write, design, and create their own interactive digital books using the iBooks Author application.

Dr. Ibba and her team, Katie Elasky and Todd Matulnik, then created the digital lab manual to be used in a Spring 2015 Microbiology 4000 lab section that will be utilizing iPads. The eBook, launched officially on January 6, 2015, will help compliment the already-existing lab manual with additional photos and videos embedded directly into the book. The creation of this lab manual will not only help our students to better engage in and understand the lab material, but may also help other institutions and students worldwide in need of an introductory microbiology lab manual.
