Kurt Fredrick appointed Department of Microbiology chair

Kurt Fredrick

Kurt Fredrick, professor in the Department of Microbiology, has been appointed chair of the department for a four-year term, effective July 1. Fredrick’s research leverages genetic, molecular and biochemical methods to study ribosomes, how they move and how such dynamics influence translation of the genetic code. In 2019, Fredrick was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his contributions to the field of protein synthesis, particularly with respect to the molecular mechanisms of initiation, translocation and decoding.

Congratulations, Dr. Fredrick!
